One of the annual traditions people seem to be following in Interwebville this year is that of listing the most popular search terms that have landed random strangers at one’s blog over the course of the past twelve-month.
Since this tradition is possibly the one that requires the least effort, it’s the one I’ll be following. Here is a non-exclusive list of what people have searched for this year which has sent them to this blog, in decreasing order of popularity:
– “there are no coincidences”, and variants, sent well over a thousand people to this post in 2011, way more than any other search topic. I should probably learn something from this.
– “no nudes” and “good nudes”, probably mostly because of this bad pun.
– “rich people problems”
– “vicki monroe”
– “ideomotor effect”
– “daily mail lies”
– “danny dyer twat”
– “why bother with life” – 34 hits for that one phrase. I hope I provided some sort of answer.
– “texas sharpshooter fallacy”
– “stopping hiv meds” – it’s worrying how many different variants on this one keep turning up, too.
– “anthony weiner penis”
– “spaceship jesus”
– “scare tactics topless”
– “being gay is awesome”
– “parts of the bible that are wrong”
– “is gillian mckeith a real doctor”
– “funny pictures depicting bayesian probability” – if anyone actually has any of these, please let me know.
– “isms in my opinion are not good”
– “skewered genitals”
– “nazi teens”
– “what kind of sick weirdo are you”
– “marginalizing lady gaga”
– “horror menz cock”
– “cant stop hiv meds they know” (eerily sinister)
– “fuck off pet”
But that’s just search engines. I can also press a thing that makes WordPress list my top referrers of the year, which puts Twitter way out in front. Quite a few hits come from other blogs as well, though, so a reciprocal shout-out should go to:
– Atheist Revolution
– You Are Not So Smart
– Heresy Corner
– Friendly Atheist
– Quiet Riot Girl (of whom more later)
– Political Anxiety Closet
– Captain Awkward
That’ll do. I’m weirdly exhausted, and today’s not feeling like a writingful day, but I’ll have more actual content tomorrow.
Thanks for the shout-out. I’m happy to see that I’ve been sending some traffic your way because you certainly deserve it.
