While I was offline for a month, I kept a note of any links and news stories worth commenting on. Now that I’m back, I’m aiming to post two short items a day here, about stuff that happened during my online absence, until I’ve cleared the backlog. This is one of those.
There’s a certain type of email that atheists and skeptics get from believers now and then, whose format tends to run something like:
Clearly you’re very smart, and I’m evidently a nice polite guy and all, but don’t you think you should really believe in a magical invisible God, preferably my one? I mean, it just makes sense, because of all these old stories, and these snippets of pseudo-evidence which have been discussed and debunked for decades but which I’m going to present as if they’re totally new. Look at all the sense it makes! You probably agree with me because of how smart you are, right?
And also, science is actually evil, which I’m sure you as a scientist can appreciate. So, you’d better stop thinking what you think and start thinking what I think before your loving creator sends you to burn in Hell for all eternity.
Have a great day!
I don’t get them a lot myself, but PZ does, and he blogged an off-the-cuff response to a recent one. Worth a read.
